Description
Washington, DC, the nation's capital, has an abundance of government offices, museums, art galleries, memorials and various tourist attractions. Famous areas and landmarks include the Washington Memorial, Smithsonian Museum, National Cathedral, National Zoo and the Capitol.
DC is divided into a number of neighborhoods: Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Capitol Hill, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and Cleveland Park to name a few. The Georgetown and Adams Morgan areas are bustling shopping and restaurant districts.
Traffic and potholes are a common occurrence in DC, but with Metro's trains and bus lines, residents can walk or take public transportation to just about anywhere in the Washington DC Metro region. Although DC is a busy city, there is much to enjoy from its atmosphere and city life.
One item you may notice is the phrase, "Taxation without Representation" on many DC license plates. This is because DC residents pay federal taxes and can vote, but aren't represented in Congress.
